Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) представляет собой Raspberry Pi 4 Model B в гибком форм-факторе, предназначенный для разработчиков. Вычислительный модуль 4 построен на том же SoC Broadcom BCM2711, что и Raspberry Pi 4, оперативной памяти в базовой версии всё так же 1 ГБ, но есть версии с 2, 4 и 8 ГБ. Опционально может быть установлен накопитель eMMC объёмом от 8 до 32 ГБ, а также модуль Wi-Fi 5 и Bluetooth 5.0. Он обеспечивает серьёзный рост производительности по сравнению со своими предшественниками: более быстрый процессор, лучшие мультимедийные возможности. И здесь впервые представлена опция беспроводной связи (Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0) и выбор из нескольких вариантов оперативной памяти (представлены 32 варианта плат, см. ниже).
В отличие от обычной версии, Compute Module 4 ориентирован в первую очередь на разработчиков, которым нужна основа для устройств с более широкими возможностями. У Compute Module 4 нет собственных разъёмов, так как он предназначен для установки в различные платы.
Самым большим сюрпризом стал отказ разработчиков от SO-DIMM (см. Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3+) в пользу двух 100-контактных мезонинных разъемов Hirose DF40C-100DS-0.4V. По словам авторов проекта, это дает возможность повысить скорость обмена данными между платами и одновременно уменьшить габариты модуля.
Два разъема дали возможность разделить низкоскоростные и высокоскоростные периферийные подключения. С одной стороны — GPIO Raspberry Pi, питание, SD-слот и Ethernet. С другой — PCIe, USB, HDMI, MIPI CSI и сразу две линии DSI. Так что плата подойдет и разработчикам, которым нужна возможность быстрого ввода/вывода, так и тем, у кого нет в этом острой необходимости.
Вместе с Compute Module 4 можно приобрести плату расширения Compute Module 4 IO Board.
Плата обеспечивает подключение широкого спектра внешних устройств. На этой плате есть два полноразмерных HDMI-порта, слот под карту microSD, 40-пиновый GPIO-коннектор, два порта USB 2.0, разъем PCIe Gen2 x1, сетевой порт Ethernet с поддержкой PoE и RTC (Real-Time Clock), со слотом для батарейки CR2032.
